cupcakes!

5 Jun

My mum used to have these very 80s-looking recipe cards in a huge notebook that was just a compilation of all sorts of recipes – clippings from newspapers, magazines, friends’ handwritten recipes. There was just something so organic about it.

I had intended to buy her a recipe folder for her birthday so that she could get rid of her old notebook and organise them.

Then I thought she wouldn’t like that because I realised that she liked the notebook – the yellowing pages, some falling out and the cover falling off it’s spine.

http://mingmakescupcakes.yolasite.com/ is all about yummy cupcakes. The way they are presented are just like those little recipe cards mum keeps.

I was a HUGE Hole fan when I was 13. I.. kind of don’t know why. I don’t think the music is anything special. But Melissa Auf Der Maur aka MAdM, caught my eye. She seemed like the quieter one out of the band but with a spark which I found intriguing (no, not a lesbo crush). So when she released her solo album a whole 6 years ago, I bought it the day it came out and I thought it was ok. Nothing to write home about.

I always thought it was awesome that she frequently updated her blog which documented the recording of her new album, OOOM (Out of Our Minds). So I’ve been making my way through the album and I will most probably just buy it. I owe the MAdM that much.

never without you

My dad loved The Beatles and they were an integral part of my personal musical history. My friend Vanessa and I always joked around and said our favourite Beatles were Ringo and George – the “forgotten” Beatles.

George Harrison’s death shattered me a little, because he honestly was one of my favourite Beatles.

I recall watching Rage one morning and I saw this video clip for Ringo’s “Never without you.”

Ringo has never really struck me as an amazing song writer, singer or even musician but he is quite the performer. However, this song really struck a chord with me.
