About

Hello, I’m Jessica. Although others may know me as Jessa, Jay, or of course - ZoeZombie. I’ve been blogging since 2002 and for some reason, I had always had this idea of somehow “protecting” my real identity by coming up with various names for my blog. In every way, these nicknames have somehow been a representation of my persona at the time. ZoeZombie seemed to fit at the time I chose it and it just stuck.
My blog was really a way for me to track my life with a journal. Since I was well into webdesign by the time I was 12, blogging seemed like a natural way to keep a journal. No one visited it and I didn’t really care. But as time went on, I became bombarded with visits. Now my blog is a social commentary of sorts, varying in topic from film to relationships to concert behaviour to the place I live.
I lost a lot of my blog over the years - I like to keep things light. The new incarnation of ZoeZombie is all about having fun and enjoying life as well as pointing out the things that make you go ‘huh?!’. Podcasting has now come back into the fold as well as exploring other aspects of technology and a bit of webdesign.
After graduating from Edith Cowan University at the end of 2006, I took by backlog of freelance projects built up from 2001 and tried to find myself a full time job. As I found out, no one will give you much of a chance if you’re just starting out or just graduated from uni. It’s not that much easier even after a year of experience but after a lot of searching, I landed an associate web designer job at one of Australia’s leading ISP’s.
I’d describe myself as … weird. Just like everyone is weird, I seem to stick out like a sore thumb sometimes. I like death metal and I watch horror movies for a laugh. I appreciate the quirky and unorthodox things in life - I’m a huge exploitation film fan. And even though I listen to death metal, I like The Beatles.
If you want to contact me, you can just leave a comment on one of my recent blogs. But no, I don’t want Viagra or cheap rugs. Thanks.

Just so you know, although I sincerely hope you are having an easier time with the job situation now (still at a leading Aussie ISP I assume), if you are willing to leave your lovely country for the US, the San Francisco bay area is not only chock full of web designers and jobs for them, but is also satiated with metalheads. It’s wonderful ;)

    P.s. I like your blog! Clearly…
